A prestigious return to the UCL

Olympique de Marseille makes its comeback to the UEFA Champions League after two seasons away. And what a return: facing Real Madrid at the legendary Santiago Bernabeu. This Tuesday night (9 PM CET), the French side steps onto the biggest stage with high ambitions.

Real Madrid already in form

Madrid has won all its first four La Liga matches (Osasuna 1-0, Oviedo 3-0, Mallorca 2-1, Real Sociedad 2-1) and looks unstoppable. However, the level of opposition was not the toughest so far. Still, no French club has ever beaten Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the UCL.

De Zerbi shows ambition

“We are not afraid,” said Roberto De Zerbi in his press conference. The Italian coach highlighted the pride and ambition of playing the Champions League, despite missing key players Nayef Aguerd (concussion) and Hamed Junior Traoré (thigh injury).

Marseille: Aubameyang leads the line

Geronimo Rulli and Leonardo Balerdi return to the starting lineup. Alongside Pavard and Medina, they will hold the defense. Up front, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to lead the attack, supported by Greenwood and Gomes. Weah is set to start as left wing-back.

Real Madrid: Mbappé and Vinicius on fire

On the Spanish side, Xabi Alonso must cope without Rüdiger, Mendy, and Endrick. But he regains Bellingham and Camavinga. The offensive line will be led by Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Junior, with teenage sensation Franco Mastantuono expected to start.

Probable line-ups

Real Madrid: Courtois – Alexander-Arnold, Militao, Huijsen, Carreras – Valverde, Tchouaméni, Güler – Mastantuono, Mbappé, Vinicius.

Marseille: Rulli – Pavard, Balerdi, Medina – Murillo, Højbjerg, Kondogbia, Weah – Greenwood, Aubameyang, Gomes.

A monumental test

The clash promises fireworks. Real Madrid’s confidence against Marseille’s hunger creates the perfect recipe for a thrilling Champions League night. The French side dreams of making history on its return to Europe’s biggest stage.
